This policy describes exactly what ZeroKeepChat collects, what it does not collect, and who else receives data when you use the service. It is written to match how the product actually works, not how we would like it to sound.
The short version
Your conversations are not stored. Message text, live photos, and audio and video calls exist only for as long as the session is open, and are never written to a database or a disk. Everything else on this page is about the small amount of data that is kept so that accounts, moderation, and abuse prevention can work at all.
What we never store
- Message content. Messages are relayed between participants in server memory and discarded when the session ends. They are never written to persistent storage or backups.
- Live photos. Disappearing photos are delivered to the recipient and dissolve after viewing. They are not archived.
- Call audio and video. Calls run peer-to-peer over WebRTC. The media never passes through our servers and is never recorded.
- Conversation history. There is no chat archive to export, subpoena, or leak, because none is written.
What we do store
If you sign in with Google
Authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication (Google). We keep a profile record containing your user ID, email address, display name, chosen username, and profile image reference. We also store your contact list, friend requests, blocked-user list, and the direct channels you belong to, so those survive between sessions.
If you use guest mode
We create a short-lived guest session token with an expiry. It is not linked to an email address or any long-term identifier, and it is swept automatically once it expires.
Rooms and matching
Temporary rooms keep a room record, the member list, pending knock requests, and the host's ban list for as long as the room exists. These are deleted when the room is swept. Random matching briefly stores a queue entry, a pairing record, and a session ticket, each with a short time-to-live.
Security and abuse logs
When you sign in, we write a session record containing your user ID, email address, IP address, browser user-agent string, and a timestamp. We keep these to investigate abuse, ban evasion, and account compromise. This is the main respect in which using ZeroKeepChat is not anonymous to us: if you sign in, we can associate your account with the IP addresses you used.
Reports and moderation
If you report another user, we store the report, the reporting account, the reported account, and the reason you gave, so that it can be acted on.
Notifications
If you enable push notifications, we store a device push token so messages can reach you.
Who else receives data
- Google / Firebase — authentication, profile and social-graph storage, and push delivery.
- Cloudflare — serves the real-time backend. As with any website, Cloudflare processes your IP address in order to route the connection.
- Microsoft Clarity — product analytics, including session replay and heatmaps. Clarity receives your user ID, email address, and display name so sessions can be matched to accounts for support and debugging. Message content and the message composer are explicitly masked, so your conversations are excluded from session replays.
- Discord — if you submit the contact form on this site, its contents are delivered to our team through a Discord webhook.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not run advertising.
Cookies and local storage
We use browser storage for your login session, language preference, and theme. Microsoft Clarity sets its own analytics identifiers. We do not use advertising cookies.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. You can delete your account from within the app, which removes your profile, social graph, and channel membership. You can also request access or deletion through the contact form below, and we will respond within a reasonable period.
If you want to minimise what is retained, use guest mode: it does not create a profile or a social graph, and it is not tied to an email address.
Children
ZeroKeepChat is not intended for children. You must be at least 13 years old to use the service, and at least 16 in jurisdictions where that is the minimum age for consent to data processing. See our Safety & Moderation page for how to report accounts that appear to belong to minors.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that materially affects what we collect, we will update the date below and note the change on this page.
